DominGO Hartford 2023

In 2022 and 2023, Lumi Hospitality worked with the City of Hartford to bring Connecticut’s first Open Streets program to life, connecting neighborhoods, people, and small businesses across the city. Inspired by other Open Street programs such as Ciclovía in Bogotá, Colombia, and Open Streets NYC, the Lumi team produced three vehicle-free routes each year, putting an emphasis on each neighborhood's distinct and unique identity. Event production included the logistical coordination of road closures, site plans, EMT services, electrical and A/V needs, furniture and equipment rentals, and the creation of a safety directive. However, in 2023, the Lumi team's most significant accomplishment was working hand-in-hand with community and neighborhood leaders to source and/or hire visual artists, musical performers, fitness instructors/sports teams, non-profit organizations, and retail vendors that were a true representation of each neighborhood. The program transformed busy thruways into safe public spaces where residents and visitors alike could gather, eat, drink, dance, and play.
